Music?
Energy gels?
Sport beans?
Candy?
Chapstick?
Saltstick Caps?
Phone?
Snacks?
Money?
Where the heck do you put all this stuff? And how do you keep it safe from sweat? And how much effort goes toward fishing this stuff out? I used to stash money in that little inside pocket of my shorts and I have grossed many a 7eleven cashier out by not only standing in line while my sweat drips down to their freshly mopped floor, but by handing them sopping-with-sweat money.
I have had a few different fuel belts and arm bands to carry things in. Issues with comfort, sizing, durability, convenience, always arise. Until we found this:
Armpocket can't be compared to any other armband device. It's crazy functional. (I know you might be thinking that this thing looks huge, but I happen to have the biggest phone on the market right now (HTC EVO) WITH an extended life battery that makes it even bigger. And I happen to have a small arm.) Pretty much every parent I know feels compelled to run with their phone at least half of the time, and this is the most comfortable way I have found to do it. Armpocket conforms to the contour of my arm. It is backed with memory foam and this is what keeps it light as air and really comfortable. Unlike other phone/media device carriers I have tried, it is incredibly water resistant. Rain and sweat have yet to touch the contents of this thing.
Take a look at what I carry on a typical long run:
Money, SaltStick Caps, energy gels, and phone. Really. |
Behind the gels, there are two additional pockets (black) where I keep my SaltStick Caps. And as you can see, there's room to stuff more in here. Chapstick, keys, condoms, credit cards; the possibilities are endless.
Armpocket comes in a lot of different colors and three different sizes. Hooray! If you happen to be smaller or larger than average, no need to suffer with the BS of "one size fits most" when you purchase one. I deliberately chose pink so that no one else in my household (of three sons and a husband) would be apt to "borrow" it permanently. I plan to run the Marine Corps Marathon wearing my Armpocket. If you are running MCM as well, be sure to stop by and see the Armpocket peeps at the MCM Expo at booth 810.
You want one? Look at their website. Seriously. Go. And compare the features to anything else you can pick up at your local running store. There's no comparison. One free Armpocket of choice will go to one lucky winner. Any color. Any size. REALLY!
And this thing isn't just for runners. This is the answer the "where do I put my cell phone when on a looping roller coaster?" question. This is great for cyclists. Walkers. People with too many kids and not enough hands. The possibilities are endless.
I did not plan to match my awesome Armpocket with my awesome Altra Zero Drop shoes, just for the record... |
If you want to win one, get on facebook and like Armpocket and mention that For The Love Of The Run sent you. Then, comment below and tell us your biggest running or fitness related accomplishment thus far and tell me your (current) ultimate goal. No victory and no aspiration is too small, and in sharing, remember that you will inspire others, no matter who you are and how you might think you compare to anyone else. So tell us!!! We will choose a winner VERY soon.
Just liked Armpocket on Facebook, thanks for the recommendation! Biggest accomplishment to date is a 20 mile run, as I prepare for my goal of finishing the Marine Corps Marathon. I'll be sure to check out Armpocket at the expo too :)
ReplyDeleteYay, Armpocket! Greatest accomplishment: Finishing the NYC Marathon in 2012 (almost wrote 1012--now that WOULD be an accomplishment, haha!). Ultimate Goal: Qualify for, and run the Boston Marathon...before I'm 40.
ReplyDeleteOMG--I messed it up again, I meant 2010--NOT 2012--which hasn't happened yet.
DeleteI think that was your half marathon PR excitement helping you blunder. Congrats again on that!
DeleteMy biggest accomplishment thus far is running for the Hope Express. It's a 135 mile relay run that takes place over 24 hours to raise money for kids with cancer. I had to run a total of 10 miles without sleeping for about 30 hours. I'd do it again in a heartbeat which brings me to my ultimate goal. I want to run it again but on the Extreme team... which is 20 miles on no sleep through the mountains of PA in the middle of the winter all for the kids!
ReplyDeleteAnd that Armpocket is awesome... I will have one eventually, however it happens! :-)
DeleteOk this is fitness related and it is an accomplishment...my 4 1/2 year old son wants to run races like his mommy! He's been getting more and more interested in my running, and he actually cried last weekend when I participated in a race and he couldn't, so today he ran a race for 4-6 year olds and he was so happy about it. He still has his race bib on(the race was 6 hours ago). I came from a family of couch potatoes. When I was growing up, no one told me to join a sports team, or how awesome the benefits of exercise can be. I am so happy that I have instilled a love of running in my son at such an early age. That being said, my ultimate goal is to complete my first FULL marathon next month in Philly.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one of these, very cool! My biggest accomplishment is finishing the Chicago marathon LAST SUNDAY! YAHOO!
ReplyDeleteso excited for you michelle!
DeleteFinished my first 50k yesterday!!!
ReplyDeleteI just ran my first half marathon last Sunday and I did it 9 seconds under my goal of 2:30! I don't know what I was so nervouse about. The Diva Half marathon was so much fun that it seemed to go quickly! I want to sign up for another half and eventually begin training for a marathon!!
ReplyDeletesuccessfully trained for and completed 26.2 last year and am about to do the same this year!!!
ReplyDeleteMy biggest accomplishment is yet to come. I am running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 18!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I ran Philly last year- it was my 3rd race in the city of Philly and (coincidentally) my 3rd marathon. Enjoy it and be proud of every moment- even the difficult moments simply because you are bold enough to be out there!
DeleteMy biggest accomplishment thus far is finishing my first half. My goal WAS to do a full marathon, but I'm just not there and that took so much for me to admit to myself. I do plan to run one in a year and will spend the time between now and then focusing on my health
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Tasha! I have some catching up to do. Opening up your blog and looking for your post on your first half now!
DeleteMy biggest accomplishment so far is two half marathons in two months, each with a better PR! Next year, I'll be running a marathon. I'm already registered, so no backing out now!
ReplyDeleteBiggest accomplishment so far would be the 2012 Spartan Trifecta including the Vermont Beast - 14.5ish miles up 4 of the Killington peaks. Next up: 2013 Vermont ULTRA Beast. I get to do the whole thing twice!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to use the Armpocket for smaller races that I don't need to carry my Camelbak for.
I've had a great year of running. Setting PR's at all distances and just generally rocking my daily runs. Greatest accomplishment so far was getting third in my age category at a sizeable 10k race.
ReplyDeleteI'm running a half this weekend where I'm hoping to PR and hoping to destroy my best marathon time at Richmond in November. Within the next few years, I want to do the Goofy challenge and eventually venture into the ultra world.
My biggest accomplishment so far is running 2 marathons in a month. My current ultimate goal is to get under 5 hrs running a marathon.
ReplyDeleteRunning a half marathon in Alaska! Almost under two hours...I use almost loosely lol
ReplyDeleteI ran the Louisville Triple Crown of Running in March (5k, 10k and 10 miler each 2 wks apart) and followed up w/ the KY Derby miniMarathon in April. My next goal is to finish my next half (11/3) in 2:50 or less. Not as lofty as some but pretty lofty goal for me!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I liked arm pocket on FB. They look so awesome!
My biggest accomplishment so far has been running 40 minutes straight. I'm not fast but I can keep moving. Less than three months ago, one minute of running was a serious struggle. My ultimate goal, which I haven't even shared with my friends, is to run a marathon with a 10 min/mile pace.
ReplyDeleteKate, amazing job! Starting out is always the toughest so keep with it!
DeleteMy biggest fitness feat so far is completing (2) half-marathons just 3 years after a hip fracture that left me on crutches for 3 months! Next up...Disney Half Marathon and ultimate goal to run NYC!
ReplyDeleteLiked Armpocket on fb! My biggest accomplishment so far was finishing marathon #2 yesterday in the rain (again) and PR'ing on a more difficult course! Now I'm eyeing up marathon #3 and I'm going to work my tail off to take even more time off again. I'm hooked.
ReplyDeleteMy biggest feat so far is being able to run 15 minutes straight. I've never been a runner but have always wanted to. I'm just starting out but my goal is to be able to run a marathon.
ReplyDeleteI'm stumped about my biggest accomplishment as of late. I think my biggest accomplishment will be this November after I finish NYC, Ragnar Las Vegas followed by Philly. My first and second full marathon 2 weeks apart with a Ragnar Relay in between will undoubtedly be my greatest accomplishment as a runner. I don't have time goals. I just run. I run to lose weight but I've plateaued with that. I run to fill my free time since I stopped playing rugby but I've recently started playing again. So, I just run. I hope to do an ultra one day. Because it's nuts. I want to be a Marathon Maniac. Because it's nuts. Tell me what's crazy and I'm likely to do that. Run a sub 4 hour marathon? Not likely for me. Run 4 marathons in a month? Ok, now you're talking...
ReplyDeleteI'm just starting out, so at this point I think my biggest running accomplishment is running itself.
ReplyDeleteAfter a decade of various and sundry aches, pains, and injuries I'm finally starting to feel like a healthy human being. Running has gone from a risky prospect to a regular source of joy and that is amazing to me.
My ultimate goal is simply to *keep* running, but that /may/ be a marathon I see kind of glimmering out there just on the edge of the horizon.
DeleteAwesome! Keep at it!
DeleteSorry that I missed the booth at Tower of Terror 10 Miler - my first race since running the Houston Marathon TWENTY years ago! My wife and I had a great experience with runDisney and will be looking forward to a 2013 Half Marathon.
